About the Missouri Snowbirds

In 1996, several people living in Missouri and spending the winter in Gulf Shores met while in a golfing group. At this particular golf outing the majority were Missourians. There were people from other states as well, and they weren’t connected with a group, so we asked them to join us as “FRIENDS OF MISSOURI”. And from this humble beginning it all began.

The Missouri Snowbirds Club officially began in January 1997.  Our Charter Members were all those who came to the club during our first year.  They all received “Charter Member” cards to carry in their wallets with the esteem notation “CHARTER MEMBER”.

At the beginning we had coffee and donuts at our meetings, but at that time we didn’t have a way to raise money we started the having a 50/50 drawing at our meetings.

Other snowbird clubs began to pop-up from other states, and we all joined together to help raise funds in the local community, and we still do that today. We raise money for the Library, the Zoo, and the Fire Departments in the Golf Shores and Orange Beach areas.

Now, over 25 years later the Missouri Snowbirds Club is still active! In addition to helping with raising funds in the community, we also host a weekly breakfast, weekly golf scrambles, weekly happy hour, and several parties during the months of January and February.
